Archaeological Survey of Donegal

Back To Archaeological Heritage

In 1983, Donegal County Council published the Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. The survey contains a description of the field antiquities of County Donegal from the Mesolithic period to the seventeenth century and has 1,900 entries. An archive of material relating to the sites and monuments of the county was also created. This archive consists of 35mm slides, maps, plans, drawings and files (which includes field sheets describing each site) relating to the sites and monuments in the survey. This archive is in the care of Donegal County Council and provides more detailed information on each site than the information provided in the Record of Monuments & Places although it has not been updated since its publication in 1983.

The survey and its archive can be consulted in the Donegal County Museum in Letterkenny.
